DUI And You

DUI and You. Abraham Lincoln said our founding fathers wanted to create a country of the people, by the people and for the people. Crimes are thought of as far off things that happen to “other people.” DUI or Driving Under the Influence is a crime of the people, by the people and involving all the people. The topic becomes DUI and You.

I want to be a lawyer for the people. Are you a people? Of course you are. Do you know anyone who has ever been charged with Driving Under the Influence? We ALL know someone who has been charged with DUI. What about you? You may have been the one charged with DUI. Your son, daughter, brother, mom or dad may have been charged with DUI. I want to write a series of posts about DUI and You.

I have to have had too many beers to be charged with DUI right? Wrong. You can drink too many beers, stay at home and never be charged with any crime. You could have too much to drink and walk outside your house and get charged with public intoxication. You can drink too much and — fill in the blank. The minute you put the keys in your hand you are at or close to the charge of DUI. If you are going to drink DO NOT put keys in your hand. DO NOT put keys in a car and DO NOT drive.

You have too many beers so you are charged with DUI right? Wrong. You can be drunk on any form of alcohol. Beer is certainly the choice of drink for many people but you can be drunk on all manner of things. I read an article today about a woman driving around the Senaca Falls, New York, Walmart looking intoxicated. She was stopped and admitted drinking two bottles of vanilla extract. The poor lady blew a .26 or over three times the limit for Tennessee. See Tennessee Code Annotated 55-10-401. Turns out you can drink vanilla extract at 41 percent alcohol or peppermint extract at a whopping 89 percent. WOW! Beer brings cheer but liquor is quicker and apparently extract is the quickest of all.Driving Under the Influence DUI is the crime of the people, for the people and by the people. How many of us have had a DUI or know someone who has had a DUI. So you have to be drunk right? No you can be stoned. You have to have had a few beers right? No you can get drunk on vanilla extract. Chec it out for yourself at http://blog.lawyer.com/index.php/vanilla-extract-leads-to-dwi-charges/. She found out the hard way that the crime is driving while intoxicated – on whatever substance you choose.

How many of us have had a DUI or know someone who has had a DUI. So you have to be drunk right? No you can be stoned. You have to have had a few beers right? No you can get drunk on vanilla extract.
